Mix of own photos and diverse digital tools and techniques (Photoshop + Corel Painter) to achieve this particular image. All photos taken in Quebec city, Canada, during Winter, after an ice rain or ice storm.
This is how I see this mythical place: Tierra del Fuego. To me, this is the Earth in fire (red round shape with a yellow "eye") evolving, or lost, in space.
I always wondered how come this Antartic place, Tierra del Fuego (Spanish for "Land of Fire"), bore a so "warm/hot" name. Here is an explanation coming from different articles of Wikipedia.
"... Tierra del Fuego (Spanish for "Land of Fire") is an archipelago off the southernmost tip of the South American mainland, across the Strait of Magellan...
... The name Tierra del Fuego derives from the Portuguese explorer Fernand Magellan; sailing for the Spanish Crown, in 1520 he was the first European to visit these lands. He believed he was seeing the many fires ("fuego" in Spanish) of the Yaghan [indigenous people*], which were visible from the sea.
The earliest known human settlement in Tierra del Fuego dates to around 8,000 B.C. Europeans first explored the islands during Fernand Magellan's expedition of 1520; Tierra del Fuego and similar namings stem from sightings of the many bonfires that the natives built. Settlement by those of European descent and the great displacement of the native populations* did not begin until the second half of the 19th century, at the height of the Patagonian sheep farming boom and of the local gold rush. Today, petroleum extraction dominates economic activity in the north of Tierra del Fuego, while tourism, manufacturing, and Antarctic logistics are important in the south.
* As I have an ethnology and anthropology background, here is what I found regarding the Indigenous peoples and languages of Tierra del Fuego: "... Adwipliin, Aksanas, Alacaluf, Calen (Calenches, Calenes,), Caucahue, Enoo, Lecheyel, Taijataf (Tayataf), Yequinahuere (Yequinahue, Yekinauer). Through the late 19th and early 20th centuries, numerous missionaries and anthropologists moved among the indigenous peoples to aid, record and study them."
