As I come from the publishing/writing/editing/translating world (French), this pen shell shot on the beach of South Padre Island (SPI - Texas), by its own name, on one hand, and by its natural beauty, on the other hand, inspires me a lot. To me, the comparison with a quill pen, used as an instrument for writing or drawing witn ink, is quite obvious. This penlike shell makes me think of the old-fashioned time of elegant handwriting on paper (that does scroutch scroutch scroutch)... and the tip always broken up (urghhhhh!).
The quill pen is kind of a noble device, used by the Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists, and Novelists (PEN) of every generation since the advent of script writing. Nowadays, we often buy quill pens just for the beauty of it, to offer as a gift to somebody who would like to become a writer/author.
This makes me think also of the fragility of things, as this shell is very delicate and is easily broken. We have to preserve beauty.
Finally, seeing a pen in this shell is a way to adapt our human intellectual world to the reality of nature. Nature inspires.
Ideal on a coffee mug by the beach.

The description, Dominique, is more beautiful than the image... that is, the image you created with words surpasses the actual shell... which is beautiful!!! F/L/V
