Description
The English version of the greeting card is entitled "Feeling Blue".
Digital work on my original watercolor artwork. The French title of this work is actually the opening sentences of a funny song from 1973 entitled "La croqueuse de 222" (The 222 Eater).
The singer of this song, Pauline Julien (1928-1998), was a renowned singer, songwriter, actress, feminist activist and Quebec sovereigntist. The song author is the renowned Quebec writer Michel Tremblay, and the music composer is Pierre Leduc. The song is written half in French, half in English (= the Quebec popular language called "joual").
The 222 is a medicine, a pill (tablet) made of Aspirin, Codeine, and Caffeine used to relieve pain. In the U.S., this medicine is available only with your medical doctor's or dentist's prescription. In Canada, some strengths of aspirin, codeine, and caffeine combination (as the 222) are available without a prescription (nowadays, though, the 222 is no more available/sold in Canada).
In the song, the girl would always bring a bottle of 222 in her purse, and her starting relieving-pain-and-blues-killer was 12 pills, thus getting her so stoned that she had no more pain nor blues, beginning to see the world in colors, everything turning blue.
It goes like this:
When I feel blue baby
When I feel blue (= "Quand j'ai les bleus" in Quebec French)
I take a couple of 222
Everything 's blue baby
Everything 's blue
The world belongs to the 222
...
Everybody must get stone
